Some Countries boast bigger and better
Salmon runs but nothing compares with a Scottish Salmon.
The
River Findhorn is a spate river, whose origin is formed by two
major burns, the Eskin and the Abhainn Cro Chlach, in the Monadhliath
Mountains. The river runs north east for 50 miles before entering
the sea at Forress on the Moray Firth. It has a reputation of
rising quickly because of the large catchment area.
The hosts of the river are Atlantic Salmon and Wild Brown Trout.
Spring fishing begins in mid April in the Tomatin area depending
on the Winter snowfall, which can produce fish weighing 10 lbs
to the unheard of 20 lbs plus.
There are three beats of right hand bank fishing available to let and
one left bank. All fly fishing only. Two beats of two rods are
one mile in length and two beats of three rods that have lengths
of one and a half and two miles plus.
Allan Bell is your Ghillie and no one knows the river better
than him, although that doesn't always guarantee a fish!
Your day starts early, you will meet Allan at the shop in the
small village of Tomatin, 16 miles south of Inverness, from here
Allan will take care of you and explain the ins and outs of the
day ahead.
Salmon
fishing is available every day from mid April until the 30th September
with the exception of Sundays as the law dictates that it is illegal
to fish on a Sunday.
We can even arrange basic fly casting lessons on our front lawn
before you set of your quest for the elusive Salmon!
Prices start from 40.00 per rod rising to 45.00 per rod in the
high season.
Ghillie costs are 35.00 per day.
Casting lessons are from 50.00.
Transport can be arranged to take you to Tomatin and collect
you at the end of the day. Rod, tackle and waders can also be
hired but must be arranged at time of booking. Fishing on other
rivers can also be arranged.
